How auto-renewal works on redeemed gift cards

Understanding what happens when a gift card's time runs out.

May 11, 2026

When you redeem a Magisterium AI gift card, a subscription is set up that auto-renews after the gift period ends — so your Pro access doesn't cut off on a specific day.

The Gift Cards / Redeem page titled 'Redeem your Gift'. Body text reads 'Please sign in to redeem your gift card.' Below it are two buttons — Login (filled) and Create Account (outlined) — and a small 'Need help with a gift card? Contact Us.' link.
Gift card redemption page

What this means

During redemption:

  • Your gift covers the first billing period (for example, 3 months or a year).
  • At the end of the gift, the subscription renews automatically at the interval you set during redemption, billed to the payment method on file.

You'll see this explained in the confirmation message at the end of redemption: "Your gift card will cover the first payment. The subscription will auto-renew at the selected interval after your gift period ends, you can cancel it anytime."

Cancel before it renews

If you'd rather not continue paying after the gift expires:

  1. Click your name in the sidebar and choose Manage Plan.
  2. Click Manage Subscription to open the billing portal.
  3. Choose Cancel subscription.

Your Pro features remain active until the end of the gift period, then your account moves to Free.

Check the renewal date

In Manage Plan, your renewal date is shown under the subscription summary. You can cancel, change plan, or switch cadence any time before that date.

Change your mind later

You can re-subscribe at any point from the Plan page — your chat history, library, and memories stay with your account through any plan changes.
