Taxes and VAT on your invoice

How taxes are calculated, and how to add a tax ID.

May 11, 2026

Magisterium AI uses Stripe Automatic Tax to compute VAT, GST, and sales tax based on your billing address. Totals shown on the Plan page may be pre-tax; your final invoice shows the applicable tax added.

How it works

  • When you check out or update your subscription, Stripe uses your billing address to determine the applicable rate.
  • Your invoice breaks the amount into subtotal, tax, and total.
  • If you're in a region without applicable tax (or tax-exempt for another reason), the tax line will show $0.

Add a tax ID (e.g. VAT ID, GST number, ABN)

Adding a valid business tax ID can remove VAT or adjust it, depending on jurisdiction rules:

  1. Click your name in the sidebar and choose Manage Plan.
  2. Click Manage Subscription to open the Stripe billing portal.
  3. Edit Billing information and add your tax ID.
  4. Save. Future invoices use the updated details.
The My Plan page for a Pro account. Top section reads 'Your current plan: Pro' with a 'Current billing cycle: (May 4, 2026 - Jun 4, 2026)' bar and '30 days left' label. Two action sections follow: 'Manage Subscription' ('Adjust your billing information, cancel your subscription, or change your plan securely.' with a black Manage Subscription button — this opens the Stripe customer portal) and 'Cancel Subscription' ('Cancel your subscription at the end of the billing period.' with a red Cancel Subscription button).

Questions about tax amount

The tax amount is set by Stripe based on your region and rules we don't control. If you believe a charge is wrong for your jurisdiction, let us know and we'll look into it with our payment provider.
