Uploading a document to your chat

Attach PDFs, images, and text files for the AI to read alongside your question.

May 11, 2026

You can attach a document to your prompt so Magisterium AI reads it together with your question. This is useful for asking about a specific PDF, summarising a text, or having the AI comment on an image of a passage.

Document uploads require Pro, Organization, or Large Organization. The Attach files option in the + menu is marked Pro on the Free plan and sends you to the Plan page.

Attach a file

There are two ways to attach:

  1. Click the + button in the chat box and choose Attach files, or
  2. Drag your file onto the chat window. You'll see a "Drop files here" overlay — release to upload.
The chat composer's + menu is open and the Sources submenu has been expanded to the right, showing two options: Auto (selected, 'Intelligently references all documents as needed') and Magisterial ('Query only official Church teaching').

After upload, your file appears as a chip above the chat box. Send your prompt and the AI will reference it in its answer.

Supported file types

  • PDFs (.pdf)
  • Text formats — plain text (.txt), Markdown (.md), HTML (.html), CSV (.csv)
  • Images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp, .heic, .heif)
  • Office and OpenDocument files — Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx, .xls), OpenDocument (.odt, .ods), and Apple Numbers — converted on upload so the AI can read them

Size limits

  • Maximum 8 MB per file, regardless of plan.
  • There's no fixed page limit, but very long PDFs may be summarised or sampled to fit the AI's context.

Sign in required

You need to be signed in to upload. Anonymous visitors see "Log in to upload a document to Magisterium AI for context, critique or comment." Create an account, sign in, and upgrade to Pro to continue.

What happens to uploaded files

  • Uploads don't train our models.
