Voice Mode not working
Troubleshoot microphone, permissions, and session issues with Voice Mode.
May 11, 2026
Voice Mode needs microphone access, a supported browser, and an available session. If something's wrong, walk through this list.
The Voice Mode button is missing

- You need to be signed in to a paid plan (Pro, Organization, or Large Organization). Voice Mode and Dictation are Pro-only features on the web.
- The text box needs to be empty — when there's text in the prompt, the dictation microphone shows instead of the Voice Mode waveform.
- Try clicking inside the text box and pressing Escape to clear anything.
You can't start a session
- Allow microphone permission when prompted. In Chrome/Edge, check the padlock → Site settings → Microphone: Allow.
- Make sure no other app is currently using the microphone exclusively.
- Firefox does not currently support Voice Mode — switch to Chrome, Edge, or the iOS / Android app.
The AI isn't hearing you
- Confirm the correct input device is selected at the OS level.
- Check the mute button inside the session — when muted, the bar shows "You are currently muted." Click to unmute.
- If your mic is very quiet, speak closer or increase input volume in OS settings.
You've hit your Voice Mode limit
Pro, Organization, and Large Organization plans have unlimited Voice Mode. If you reach the live voice service from a non-web client where Free users can connect, the backend caps each user at 10 minutes per 7 days total — minutes are counted from connect to leave. When you've used your budget, starting a new session shows "Resets on [date]". See Using Voice Mode and I have no more queries left — what do I do?.
Session drops mid-conversation
- Voice Mode depends on a stable connection. Drops are often caused by Wi-Fi instability.
- Try a wired connection or a better Wi-Fi spot and start a new session.
